About the Item

An unusual pair of mid 19th century carved giltwood & velvet salon armchairs. Circa 1850. The chairs have been fully re-sprung, reupholstered and covered in Designer's Guild blue 'Raven' velvet. The fabric backs has been treated with an advanced double fire retardant back coating, and all inners comply with regulations. The gilding has been consolidated, retaining some original gold leaf, and black bole has been used. The gilding has a hard shell and it is smooth to the touch, but still showing some wear and ageing to capture its genuine heritage. These chairs would have been designed for occasional use in the parlour or salon, they are however very comfortable, with a laid back design. There is some slight movement to the frame of the arms from left to right. The legs are all solid and sturdy, and sit on the original inset brass castors. Additional dimensions information: Seat heights are 38cm Delivery included to mainland UK.

Pair of Aesthetic Movement Small Folding Chairs E.W Godwin Manner

Pair of Aesthetic Movement Small Folding Chairs E.W Godwin Manner

Located in Norwich, England

A pair of Aesthetic Movement small walnut low folding decorative chairs with cane seats, in the manner of E.W. Godwin. Circa 1870s. Free delivery to the UK via a selected parcel company. The walnut frames are in very good condition and have their original patina, showing some age with use, they have been lightly waxed. One of the chairs cane seats professionally re-caned, and it has been aged to resemble the other original cane seat. This same chair has had the under rail replaced in oak with two bolts, as shown in photograph number 12. This was done many years ago - I would say about 80 plus years, looking at the construction. Also added at a similar time under the seat, one small rail either side. The wooden dome...
