About the Item

Listed is a pair of iconic ‘Moduline’ rosewood and leather armchairs by Ole Gerlev Knudsen and Torben Lind for France & Son, Denmark. Chairs are in fair original condition, ‘dans son jus’. The rosewood actually is in immaculate condition, however the leather is adequate. Though I could see them standing — as is — in a loft or a bachelor pad, I guess they need some TLC to really obtain the wow-factor. But it could be just a matter of taste. If you are looking for a pristine set of Danish armchairs: don’t buy this set. General note: Shipping quotes as supplied by 1stdibs are only indicative. We will discuss and figure out the best possible shipment method (and rate) for every individual object

Set of 4 Galvanitas Oosterhout NV S16 Compass Chairs, Dutch Design, 1950s

Set of 4 Galvanitas Oosterhout NV S16 Compass Chairs, Dutch Design, 1950s

By Galvanitas

Located in CULEMBORG, GE

For sale is a lovely set of four Galvanitas S16 Compass Chairs, arguably the most iconic school chair ever produced. The first to design with sheet metal was obviously Jean Prouve, but in The Netherlands the experiments with these classic compass leg subframes really exploded in the 1950s. Friso Kramer and Wim Rietveld designed the similar looking Result Chair for Ahrend in the same period, but the S16 turned out to be the most successful —featuring in most schools and canteens of office- and government buildings. Made from a sheet steel frame with a fine laminated and formed seat and back by Pagholz, the iconic S16 Chair...
