About the Item

Rare set of six Belgian modernist dining chairs from the 1950s, often referred to as the “Radar” chair and regularly attributed to Belgian designer Willy Van Der Meeren. These examples were produced by Imexcotra, a small furniture manufacturer based in Aalst, Belgium, with original stamps present underneath the seats. The chairs feature elegant black painted metal frames combined with beautifully shaped lacquered wooden seats. Their graphic wire backrests give the design its characteristic “radar” appearance, resulting in a light and architectural silhouette typical of post-war Belgian modernism. A refined and functional set with strong mid-century character, equally fitting in a modern interior or collectible design setting. The chairs remain in very good vintage condition with only minor signs of age and use consistent with time. Sold as a set of 6. Augusto Bozzi Ariston dining chairs Saporiti Italy 1954

Augusto Bozzi Ariston dining chairs Saporiti Italy 1954

By Saporiti, Augusto Bozzi

Located in Roosendaal, Noord Brabant

Highly rare and beautiful set of 6 so called ‘Ariston’ dining chairs designed by Augusto Bozzi and manufactured by Saporiti, Italy 1954. These chairs have a pressed plywood seat which is finished with teak veneer at the front and back, the black painted metal wire frame supports the seats. The structure provides stability and also a nice contrast with the deep coloured plywood seats. The seats are only connected to the base with 2 screws which are decoratively worked away in the seat, but these details also support the aesthetics of the design. This style was popular in the 1950s. Bozzi was one of the designers who gained credits for his designs during that period, putting Saporiti on the map and becoming one of the big players...
