About the Item

Giuseppe Davanzo for Appiani Selezione, set of eight dining chairs 'Serena', elm, plastic, Italy, 1960s This set of six Italian dining chairs was designed by Giuseppe Davanzo in the 1960s. The design features a wooden frame composed of multiple squared elements, supporting a round seat and matching round backrest. The elm wood displays a warm tone, complemented by black metal connections. The seat and backrest are crafted from red plastic, creating a striking visual contrast. Their rounded shapes, gently curved edges, and vibrant color give the chairs a distinctive, playful character. Giuseppe Davanzo (1921-2007) was born in Ponte di Piave. After serving in the Second World War, Davanzo studied at the Regio Istituto Universitario di Architettura in Venice. His work was mostly influenced by Carlo Scarpa and Franco Albini. The designer died in 2007.
