About the Item

Mario Oreglia, set of six dining chairs, faux leather, lacquered wood, Italy, 1950s Mario Oreglia (1916-1989) emerged as one of the leading furniture designers in the post-World War II era. His designs gained widespread recognition, frequently published in esteemed publications like Domus and Roberto Aloi's furniture overviews. His designs are exemplary for pure modernism with an Italian allure. The present chairs are custom-tailored and resonate with this approach, featuring a striking curvature in the wooden frame as well as the seating elements. When experienced from the back, the two slats gently widen towards the bottom, introducing subtle curves to the otherwise rigid form through dual wood bends. The side part features a sharp angle, accentuated by a diagonal movement. The designer skilfully curved the backrest to harmonize with the wooden frame's shape. The overall elegance of the piece is further enhanced by the slim, streamlined backrest. The sculptural quality of the chair is characteristic of Oreglia's artistic style and can be seen as part of his broader artistic vocabulary. Please note that this item is good, used condition with visible signs of age and use. The leather exhibits wear, including holes. The wooden frame contains scratches and lacquer has wear. Reupholstery and restoration is possible before shipping by our experienced craftspeople in our own in-house restoration atelier.
