About the Item

Pair of vintage Harvey Probber swivel lounge chairs upholstered in their original Jack Lenor Larsen striped velvet fabric. The chairs feature a low, generous barrel form with softly squared arms, loose seat cushions, and recessed circular swivel bases that give them a clean, floating profile. A particularly great detail is the self-return swivel mechanism: after you stand up, each chair naturally rotates back to its original forward-facing position. It is the kind of thoughtful functional design that makes these as enjoyable to use as they are to look at. The original Larsen textile has a rich red, orange, and rust-toned stripe pattern with great depth and movement, giving the chairs a bold yet sophisticated presence. The fabric shows age, wear, and areas of visible use, so the pair would benefit from reupholstery. That said, the existing textile is a wonderful reference point for the kind of direction these chairs deserve: something graphic, textural, and luxurious. With their sculptural shape, compact footprint, and automatic return swivel bases, this pair would make a striking addition to a living room, library, lounge, or conversation area.
