Dutch Mid-Century Model 356 PQ rolling office chair, designed by Willem H. Gispen for Gispen Culemborg. The chair features a rounded bucket seat and back upholstered in black leatherette, slim bakelite armrests, and a metal frame with dark finish. Seat height adjusts via a central screw column mechanism, ranging from 17.5 inches at the lowest to 22 inches at the highest. The five-star base, with silver-tipped cast metal arms and small rolling casters, provides stable, mobile support. Gispen was a pioneering Dutch manufacturer whose work from the 1920s through the postwar decades shaped Dutch functionalist design. The 356 PQ reflects Gispen's consistent approach: utilitarian engineering with clean, considered proportions. The bakelite armrests, a material common in mid-century industrial production, and the adjustable screw mechanism are hallmarks of the era's office furniture design. Christoffel Hoffmann is credited as the designer of this model.
