About the Item

Three-legged cowherd’s stool made of turned beech, France, circa 1960 French cowherd’s stool made circa 1960 from solid beech stained brown. It features a thick, half-moon-shaped seat, assembled using three exposed dowels that fully contribute to its handcrafted character. The tripod base consists of three strongly flared legs, connected by a triangular crossbar. The legs and crossbars are turned with a rhythmic pattern of successive bulges, creating a sculptural and expressive silhouette. The beech’s grain is highlighted by a warm patina with brown and amber hues. With its robust construction, turned detailing, and nod to reinterpreted vernacular forms, this stool evokes certain rustic modernist designs associated with postwar French furniture. A decorative piece that can be used as an occasional seat, a small stool, or a side table. In good original condition, with slight signs of wear consistent with its age.
