About the Item

Rare Black, Starr & Frost sterling silver and mahogany wood bookshelf or holder, with an adjustable divider, presumably from the late 19th or early 20th century, beautifully adorned with curvilinear sterling silver motifs on either end of the piece. It measures 21'' by 9 1/8'' by 8 7/8'', and bears hallmarks as shown. The oldest continuously operating jewelry firm in the United States, Black, Starr & Frost also produced objects in silver. Already in 1860, the company received an order for more than $12,000 of jewelry and silverware from Edward, Prince of Wales. In 1929, Black, Starr & Frost merged with Gorham Corporation, and was renamed Black, Starr, Frost-Gorham. Please feel free to ask us any questions, and please see our other listings.
