About the Item

J.A.D.A Galerie presents: A long oak sideboard made in France in the 1930s, in the ornamental register that Parisian cabinet workshops carried through the Art Deco years. The carving is worked by hand, and the vocabulary belongs to the circle of makers around Jean Charles Moreux. The case is solid oak in a natural finish, the open grain left visible across the whole front. Two wide doors flank the centre, each one divided into six panels held in moulded frames and filled with carved fruit and foliage, grapes, pears and leaves cut in low relief. Between them a glazed door in a slim metal frame opens onto a shelved interior. Slabs of veined marble cover the top on either side, bridged at the centre by a band of oak that sits directly above the glass. The case stands on a low stepped plinth. It earns its place in a dining room, where the marble takes the serving, or along the wall of a wide entrance hall.
