About the Item

French workshop, two-register cabinet with panelled doors and fall-front storage, solid natural oak, France, 1940s. Solid natural oak throughout. In two registers: the upper section carries two hinged doors, each with a grid of six raised rectangular panels framed by deep mouldings, hung on large forged iron strap hinges. The lower section has two fall-front panels that open forward and down, each fitted with a row of turned wooden knob handles; they reveal interior storage suited to linen, shoes or household goods. The same heavy forged iron hardware runs through both registers, anchoring the piece in a single material vocabulary of natural oak and wrought ironwork. Plain square feet. The two-register natural oak cabinet combines enclosed upper storage with fall-front lower access, suited to an entrance hall, bedroom or service room. The forged iron strap hinges give it its character. Natural oak aged to a warm tone with open grain throughout. Good vintage condition. Solid oak structurally sound, fall-front hinges and iron hardware intact, patina consistent with age and use.
