About the Item

A Fine and Rare French 19th-20th Century Louis XVI Style Gilt-Bronze-Mounted Mahogany and Satiné Parquetry Vitrine Commode-Server, attributed to Maison Forest. The rectangular body surmounted by a brèche violette marble top above a frieze with scrolled ormolu mounts and allegorical corner mounts, all above an ormolu framed parquetry central door with corner rossettes, flanked by a pair of paneled glass vitrine doors with lined burgundy fabric interior wooden shelves. One lock removed to reveal the locksmith's mark E. Schmidt / à Paris. Circa: Paris, 1900. Le Maison Forest was established at in Paris at 14 rue Pierre-Picard in 1883 and also at 31 rue Cambacéres. The firm was renown for their production of high quality furnishings inspired by models of period French Master ébénistes in the Louis XIV, XV and XVI styles as well as Empire style with fine gilt-bronze mounts, parquetry and marquetry.
