About the Item

This Late 19th Century Campaign Chest features two upper drawers and three lower drawers. In typical campaign style, the chest has brass corner details and inset brass hardware, adding sophistication and elegance. The brass hardware is stamped "White Aldershot". This shows a connection to the historic British military town of Aldershot, a testament to the pieces history and its excellent craftsmanship. The British military campaign chest originated in the 18th and 19th centuries to provide officers with portable, sturdy storage that could withstand the rigors of travel and harsh climates, especially during colonial campaigns in India, Africa, and other parts of the world. Made from durable woods like teak or mahogany, the chests were designed in two stackable sections with brass corners and handles for easy transport and protection against damage. They were prized for their functionality, often featuring fold-out desks or concealed compartments, and became status symbols among officers. Today, campaign chests are admired for their craftsmanship, historical significance, and timeless style, capturing the spirit of British military adventure. The piece comes apart in two pieces for easy transport. A wonderful addition to more traditional, campaign or colonial styled settings, this special piece will elevate any room.
