Royal House Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this absolutely exquisite hand carved English Mahogany extending dining table after Thomas Chippendale with ornately hand carved Lions Mains to the top of the legs and Hairy Paw & Ball to the feet in the 18th Century Georgian Iris taste A very good looking well made and super decorative table, it has three extension leaves so it can be used for 6, 8, 10 and 12 people with lots of space, if you seat two people at either end (which there is plenty of room for) then the table accommodates 14 The extending feature is operated by a manually winding lever arm which is inserted to one end, the table frame is very substantial having a huge mechanism under for supporting the leaves and keeping the rigidity of the frame The carving is truly first class, you will be hard pressed to find a better example of this kind of work anywhere, each lions main is realistic and in the Georgian Irish taste, the hairy paw feet are a work of art and hide the traditional balls under, which, can be seen from the back only, a sign this was a no expense spared commission Condition wise we have deep cleaned, hand condition waxed and hand polished it from top to bottom, there will be some age and use related patina marks based on normal use and transport, I can see a couple of small marks to the top, along with general ware, some small losses to the timber on one patch of the side, otherwise it is an exquisite example Dimensions Height: 76.5cm Width: 177cm extending to 352.5cm with all three extension leaves in place Depth: 137cm Under table legroom height 62cm All measurements are taken at the widest points.
