About the Item

Elegant Swedish Rococo Secretary Desk in Black-Painted Pine. Executed in a beautiful and characteristic Rococo style with a wavy body, sides, and back. The slanting writing flap with a profiled, undulating edge opens to an interior in a striking coral-red color with drawers, small shelves, and a sliding panel concealing a “hidden” compartment. The writing surface is covered with original leather, and beneath the flap are wrought-iron pullouts for support. At the bottom, a pair of drawers is finished in a characteristic Rococo form with a wavy edge and elegantly curved legs. A beautiful piece of furniture with an elegant form, carefully restored to preserve its powerful expression. Sweden, c. 1770 Measures open D 95 cm

Swedish Baroque Bureau Bookcase in Black Paint, Circa 1730–1750

Located in Kastrup, DK

Impressive Swedish bureau bookcase crafted during the Baroque period, circa 1730–1750. Constructed in two sections, the piece features a beautiful black-painted finish with an attractive patina, allowing the warm tones of the wood to emerge subtly along the mouldings and edges. The upper section is fitted with elegant glazed doors with finely divided panes and glazed side panels, lending the piece a lighter appearance while allowing views into the cabinet from multiple angles. The interior is finished in a beautiful dusty grey-blue tone, creating a refined contrast to the dark exterior and providing an elegant backdrop for displayed objects. The boldly profiled pediment is crowned by a distinctive swan-neck crest, richly carved with an urn overflowing with flowers and flanked by laurel branches. The lower section comprises three generous drawers with serpentine fronts and original gilt-bronze mounts. The flowing drawer fronts reinforce the powerful Baroque character of the piece, while the panelled sides and substantial feet add both presence and architectural strength. A highly decorative and well-proportioned example of Swedish Baroque furniture...
