About the Item

J.A.D.A Galerie presents: A three-door sideboard made in France in the 1940s, worked in solid oak by a workshop following the late Art Deco vocabulary that Charles Dudouyt carried through the decade. The design sets a heavy horizontal case above an open base, so the mass reads lighter than its size suggests. Each of the three doors is framed by a moulded border and crossed by two horizontal bands carved in relief with running acanthus scrolls, cut into the solid timber and left in a natural finish that keeps the grain and the tool marks readable. The front corners are canted and marked with short reeded blocks. The case sits on two stepped plinth supports joined by a low stretcher that runs the full length underneath. It works along a dining room wall, behind a sofa in a large living room, or in a wide entrance hall where a low horizontal line helps the space read calmer.
