Made in France in the eighteenth century, this small painted pine cabinet comes from Uzes, in the south of France, and retains a painted patina. Painted pine cabinets of this kind were practical pieces of provincial French furniture, used for the storage of household items. The painted patina gives the cabinet a soft, aged surface, while the small scale makes it versatile. As a cabinet, the piece provides enclosed storage behind its door, suited to a kitchen, hall, sitting room, or bedroom. The painted finish and provincial form give it country character.
