About the Item

The 65" wide table including the leaf extensions measures 99 3/4 " wide. The depth varies from 31 1/2" - 35 1/2" . Each of the two leaves measure ~ 17 3/4 " w x 30 1/2 " deep. A striking and exceptionally refined French Mid Century high gloss lacquered dining or center table, masterfully crafted in richly figured authentic and exotic Macassar ebony and distinguished by an extraordinary geometric marquetry inlaid top of remarkable complexity. The central panel is composed of meticulously book-matched and quarter-cut Macassar veneers arranged in an intricate interlocking pattern, creating a dramatic optical effect that epitomizes the sophistication and innovation of the finest French ébénisterie. The beautifully grained Macassar ebony field is framed by a subtle contrasting inlaid border, emphasizing the architectural balance and precision of the design. Every veneer has been carefully selected and laid to maximize the natural contrast between the golden amber and deep chocolate-black figuring characteristic of exceptional Macassar ebony. The shiny, high gloss lacquered top is supported by elegant ebonized tapering legs terminating in bronze sabots, lending the table a light, graceful presence while reinforcing its refined architectural character. Designed with practicality as well as beauty in mind, the table incorporates two pull-out extension leaves, allowing it to transition effortlessly from an intimate dining table to a generous entertaining table while preserving its clean, uninterrupted streamlined silhouette. The restrained elegance, impeccable craftsmanship, and sophisticated use of exotic veneers place this table firmly within the tradition of the finest French cabinetmakers of the late 1920s and early 1930s, recalling the work of leading Parisian ateliers such as Dominique, Jules Leleu, and André Arbus. This is an exceptional example of French period furniture, combining luxurious materials, extraordinary geometric artistry, and timeless modern design. The leaves blend with the table while not matching it exactly, as they are painted faux Macassar ebony, whereas the table itself is crafted from genuine Macassar ebony. Many tables from this period were made with unfinished raw wood leaves intended to be covered with a tablecloth when fully extended. These two leaves have been thoughtfully finished to harmonize with the table’s overall appearance, allowing the piece to retain a cohesive and elegant presentation when opened. Please note: White spot in close up of wood and some other shadows are merely the camera's flash or reflections.
