About the Item

Book press hand-crafted in the Netherlands in the mid 1800s using oak and decorated with ebonized trims. The press is relatively small, making it the perfect accent piece for that corner in the house that needs something decorative, interesting and definitely one of a kind. The bottom is composed of a small base with a single, inset drawer. The base is highly ornate featuring hand-turned, bulbous legs connected with an I stretcher. The front of the drawer is decorated with carvings and the sides of apron feature ebonised panels framed in molding. The ebonization is used throughout the piece to decorated the flat parts and add depth. The top locks on the bottom and features several plates as well as the original, still functioning screw (as shown in video), therefore, it can also be a perfect piece for those who hand-bound books, or create dry flower compositions and are looking for an antique, decorative piece that is also fucntional (SIze of plates 58x34cm). Overall this is a fun, interesting piece that can be easily placed in a home; it requires very little floor space and will be a fantastic conversation starter at parties and get togethers.
