About the Item

Mid 18th Century English provincial George II lowboy. Circa 1750. This fabulous lowboy is of small proportions and oozes character and charm, having the original finish, which shows a superb deep patina. The drawers all work well, the interiors are made of oak. It still retains the original plate handles, which is rare. The lowboy is veneered in walnut, mahogany and fruitwood over pine construction. The moulded overhanging top is cross banded, echoing the drawer fronts. Standing on solid cabriole legs. There has been a historic repair to the back left side and some veneer replacements. A couple of pieces are missing from the top to note. The top has had some shrinkage movement, resulting in a slight opening and difference in shape. There are marks and signs of use all over the lowboy. Some historic woodworm to the back and the pad feet. This has been treated as a precaution, but appears dormant. The lowboy is sturdy in structure with no loose joints - a very useable piece of furniture.
