About the Item

A rare mahogany occasional table from England circa the late 1800s has canted corners and acorn feet. This is a unique piece with distinctive handcrafting. The overall appearance is distinctive. The mahogany has a reddish tone with a deep patina. Mahogany was a favorite wood for many years during the Regency period, and faux bamboo was also used. During this period, the use of brass was also introduced and produced with wood. The Regency period furniture was characterized by simplicity: straight uninterrupted lines and surfaces. This square table top has canted corners and is raised on four legs made of offset clustered bamboo, which terminate in acorn feet that are joined by a brass X-form stretcher. The table is sturdy and elegant with some signs of age on the top. But the design speaks to English Regency style, and the table presents extremely well. The table is 25 inches tall, 23.5 inches wide and 23.5 inches deep.

The beautiful details make this 19th century occasional table a standout. The design is 360 degrees with stylized touches from every angle, allowing for more design options. The pine finish has developed a warm patina, and the turned legs are flush with detail. The table is either American or English, late 19th Century. The rectangular top with molded edge over a corresponding frame fitted with a single molded long drawer, is raised on ring-turned legs, joined by a shelf stretcher. One of the planks in the stretcher is loose and will be tightened. This is a surprisingly sturdy and solid piece with nice design features.
