A fine pair of English sporting oil paintings on canvas by Colin Graeme Roe, signed Colin Graeme and dated. Active in the late 19th and early 20th century, Graeme Roe was known for animal subjects, particularly horses and dogs, and is recorded as having signed works both under the full name Colin Graeme Roe and the shortened form Colin Graeme. The pair presents two companion sporting compositions. One depicts a horse at a stable door looking down toward two attentive hounds below, the scene arranged with a warm interior depth and a strong sense of interaction between the animals. The second shows a horse outdoors with two dogs gathered beneath its head, set against an open landscape with soft sky and distant hills.
