About the Item

South Bank Central by Henderson Cisz, a signed limited edition box canvas numbered 49 from an edition of 195. The panoramic view carries the eye from a crowded pedestrian promenade on the left, past flower stalls and autumn trees, through moving traffic to the Palace of Westminster and Elizabeth Tower on the right. Cisz builds the picture from accurate architecture and loose impressionistic marks. Black cabs and red buses run through a wet street, lit shopfronts break the lilac and blue grey of the buildings, and reflections carry light right across the foreground. The older shape of the cars and the formal clothing set the scene in the middle of the last century. Henderson Cisz was born in Brazil in 1960 and moved to London in the 1980s to paint full time. London became both his home and his principal subject, and he is known for cityscapes that put recognisable landmarks behind crowds, traffic, rain and changing light. The canvas is presented as a box canvas within a substantial black wooden floating frame. The canvas is clean and well tensioned, the colours remain strong and the signature and edition number are distinct. No tears, punctures or paint losses are apparent. The floating frame carries minor surface wear and light dust within the lower recessed edge, consistent with previous display.
