Set of three original antique fish prints. Angler or monkfish, Lophius piscatorius 33, longnose batfish, Ogcocephalus vespertilio 34, and sargassumfish, Histrio histrio 35. Smooth trunkfish, Rhinesomus triqueter 39, longhorn cowfish, Lactoria cornuta 40, and thornback trunkfish, Tetrosomus gibbosus 41. Matted filefish, Acreichthys tomentosus 36, queen triggerfish, Balistes vetula 37, and white-banded triggerfish, Rhinecanthus aculeatus 38. These prints originate from 'Unterhaltungen aus der Naturgeschichte: Der Fische erster Theil, Volume 5' by Gottlieb Tobias Wilhelm. Published 1832. Gottlieb Tobias Wilhelm (1758 – 1811) was a Protestant pastor and natural history writer, and the son of Christian Art Wilhelm, an art dealer and publisher in Augsburg, Bavaria, Germany. These engravings are from the fish section of Wilhelm’s monumental 25 volume work on Natural History. Published from 1777 through to the 1800s, with a total of 1469 exquisite illustrations by the renowned engravers of Augsburg’s famous print empire, once known as the European Image Factory.
