About the Item

NAMED ONE OF WATCHPRO MAGAZINE’S “HOT 100” - THE TOP 100 INFLUENCERS OF THE U.S. WATCH INDUSTRY. HOW CAN WE SERVE YOU? We’re new to offering our carefully curated collection on 1stDibs, but we have sold over 10,000 fine watches and exceptionally served thousands of customers with a 5.0 star rating. 1939 OMEGA - TISSOT Omega Caliber 33.3 Vintage Large Mens Chrongraph - Stainless Steel Rare & Very Collectable - Double Signed Dial - 1 Year Warranty Today's offering showcases this rare and historically interesting Omega - Tissot chronograph with multicolor and multiscale dial and desirable Omega caliber 33.3movement. Pleasingly large at 37mm without the crown with olive shaped pushers and a multicolor dial, in many ways this watch is the quintessential early pre-war Omega chronograph. Except what makes this watch particularly rare is the fact that it is double-signed, signed both Omega and Tissot. Its fabulous multiscale dial has a red outer tachometer ring that measures the speed of objects, done especially for aviation and racing uses and a blue telemeter scale for easily calculating the distance of phenomena that can be both seen and heard, such as munitions blasts and thunderclaps. It also has 1/5 markings for very precise timing for technical and sporting uses. The Omega 28.9 chronograph was Omega's first true wristwatch chronograph - the first small wrist chronograph movement made by Omega in 1932 after the company had merged with Lemania and Tissot. Within about a year of its release, Omega switched course and began introducing watches based on the larger Lemania caliber Omega 33.3 (Lemania 15CH/Tissot 5778) in 1933 which became Omega's first well-known chronograph caliber. This robust and large caliber 33.3 was the predecessor to the famous caliber 321 (Lemania 2310) and the caliber 861, fitted to the Omega "moon watch" still used by NASA astronauts today. Starting nearly 20 years ago, aided by the popular Omegamania, Omega signed caliber 33.3 chronographs dramatically increased in collectability. Our Omega-Tissot presents very nicely on the wrist. Its case has one area where the metal has particularly oxided away around the edge of the case back between the lugs that can't be seen while it's being worn and is difficult to see at all with the band installed, and it has light aging under the lugs. Otherwise, the case presents very well. Its original-olive shaped pushers are in excellent condition. The silver dial, with gold numbers, red outer tachometer scale and blue telemeter scale shows some aging but still presents well. It has a true vintage look. Please inquire if you would like it restored. One of our Master Watchmakers has disassembled it down to its last screw and cleaned and oiled it and installed a new correct stem. We have timed it on a machine that spins the watch in all directions simulating it being worn on the wrist and it is keeping time within approx. one second per hour. For the finishing touch, it comes equipped with a black textured leather strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment. Available to pair with it is an uncommon period Tissot box. Please inquire if you're interested. A couple of very fine dual-signed Omega - Tissot chronographs with this movement have come up for auction in the past five years. Here are links to their lots: Christies; Phillips. 1918 Longines Tiffany & Co. Caliber 13.33 Mens World War I Military Chronograph

1918 Longines Tiffany & Co. Caliber 13.33 Mens World War I Military Chronograph

1918 Longines for Tiffany & Co. Caliber 13.33 Mens Single Button World War I Military Chronograph Watch - Sterling Silver World's First Chronograph Wristwatch - A True Legend - Original - 1 Year Warranty Today's showcases this very collectable and rare caliber 13.33 late World War I era chronograph. First developed in 1913, like many chronograph pocket watches, the 13.33 relies on a single pusher to start, start and reset the chronograph. Invoiced by Longines on October 19th, 1918 to the A. Wittnauer Company, it was retailed through Tiffany & Co. significantly adding to its desirability. While some of the dials for these watches contained colorful scales, the so-called "military style" dial on this very early example is much more utilitarian and uncluttered and goes along well with the watch's trench style design. It's easy to read large numerals and luminous cathedral hands gave it a natural suitability for military uses, particularly important at the time this watch was produced. It is in pleasing original condition down to the all of the register hands and has matching serial and case numbers. The dual signed sterling silver case - signed with the traditional Longines signature and also stamped Tiffany & Co., is in honest condition Its clean dial is in excellent condition with one discretely touched up small spot by 11. Two of our Master Watchmakers worked for the last year and half years restoring the movement of this special watch to breathe new life into the chronograph which works well (restoration value $2195). Photos of the beautifully finished movement available upon request (you should ask for one!) It is keeping very accurate time. For the finishing touch, we have equipped it with a brand new Hirsch leather strap designed for fixed lugs use and a vintage Longines buckle making it ready for immediate enjoyment. Also accompanying it are inner and outer vintage Longines boxes. If you're familiar with modern Longines, the Longines Column-Wheel Single Push-Piece Chronograph 180th Anniversary Limited Edition was specially designed to mark the brand’s 180th anniversary's and is closely based on the original 13.33 watches. In my opinion the 13.33 is not yet fully appreciated and still a bit under priced, and I would not be surprised to see it continue to increase in value closer to that of the 13ZN. Your watch is important to us, and we will take care of it for its lifetime. We provide the best after sale care in the business with an extremely experienced team of four Master Watchmakers all of whom each have over thirty-five years of experience and a large number of parts. One used to be the watchmaker for an authorized Rolex dealership and was given training by Rolex at their Beverly Hills Service Center. Longines 13.33 chronograph: During Longines' golden era from the 1910's to the 1940's, while the idea of flight grew from the margins into a practical and valuable endeavor, the company's wristwatches earned a reputation as the constant cockpit companions of pioneering aviators. One of the significant characteristics of the chronograph models of these watches were that they featured an "in house" Longines movement fully designed and built by Longines. Very few of even the top chronograph watches use "in-house" produced caliber; iconic movements that power distinguished watches like the Rolex Daytona, Gallet Multichron 12, or even the exceedingly rare Patek Philippe 1518...
