It gained notoriety due to its use by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbird Flight Team, whose pilots appreciated the practicality of its rotating timing bezel. Long before Rolex created dedicated professional timing watches for every niche, the Turn-O-Graph offered an elegant solution for measuring elapsed time while retaining all of the refinement of a Datejust. The Turn-O-Graph occupied a unique place in Rolex's lineup. More sophisticated than a sport watch yet more functional than a traditional dress watch, it bridged two worlds. Prior to the introduction of the Day-Date President, the solid gold Turn-O-Graph represented the pinnacle of the Rolex catalog. Because the model never sold in large numbers, surviving vintage examples have become increasingly desirable among collectors. Here are some of this watch's features: * Desirable vintage Turn-O-Graph * Beautiful champagne pie-pan dial which gives the watch a classic and more elegant look * Solid 18K gold rotating bezel designed to measure elapsed time * Officially Certified Chronometer caliber 1570 movement - a mechanism that powered models of the Datejusts as well as early Submariner, Explorer, and GMT models * Original to the watch Rolex crimped link Jubilee bracelet Our vintage Turn-O-Graph is original down to its original Rolex bracelet, dial, and hands. Its only replacement part is its steel Rolex crown. Unlike many of these watches, it's bezel has not been heavily polished - it retains strong engine turning. Its case presents in very good condition with fairly mild wear to the bezel and a few indentions in the back. Please inquire if you would like it freshly polished or a new gold Rolex crown installed. The highlight of the watch is its untouched original dial which is just short of mint. One of our Master Watchmakers, who used to be the watchmaker for an authorized Rolex dealer and was given special training by Rolex at their Beverly Hills Service Center to be an authorized Rolex watchmaker, has fully serviced the watch which consists of fully disassembling the movement, carefully inspecting each part, replacing any overly worn components with genuine Rolex parts including a new tube so that the crown screws down well, a correct new mainspring, a new crystal, and a new oscillating weight axles, disassembling and lubricating the movement, and extensive timing testing and regulation (a $1495 value). It is running strong and true, keeping essentially on par with a new Rolex watch in our testing recording position. We’re new to offering our carefully curated collection on 1stDibs, but we have sold over 10,000 fine watches and exceptionally served thousands of customers with a 5.0 star rating. 1939 OMEGA - TISSOT Omega Caliber 33.3 Vintage Large Mens Chrongraph - Stainless Steel Rare & Very Collectable - Double Signed Dial - 1 Year Warranty Today's offering showcases this rare and historically interesting Omega - Tissot chronograph with multicolor and multiscale dial and desirable Omega caliber 33.3movement. Pleasingly large at 37mm without the crown with olive shaped pushers and a multicolor dial, in many ways this watch is the quintessential early pre-war Omega chronograph. Except what makes this watch particularly rare is the fact that it is double-signed, signed both Omega and Tissot. Its fabulous multiscale dial has a red outer tachometer ring that measures the speed of objects, done especially for aviation and racing uses and a blue telemeter scale for easily calculating the distance of phenomena that can be both seen and heard, such as munitions blasts and thunderclaps. It also has 1/5 markings for very precise timing for technical and sporting uses. The Omega 28.9 chronograph was Omega's first true wristwatch chronograph - the first small wrist chronograph movement made by Omega in 1932 after the company had merged with Lemania and Tissot. Within about a year of its release, Omega switched course and began introducing watches based on the larger Lemania caliber Omega 33.3 (Lemania 15CH/Tissot 5778) in 1933 which became Omega's first well-known chronograph caliber. This robust and large caliber 33.3 was the predecessor to the famous caliber 321 (Lemania 2310) and the caliber 861, fitted to the Omega "moon watch" still used by NASA astronauts today. Starting nearly 20 years ago, aided by the popular Omegamania, Omega signed caliber 33.3 chronographs dramatically increased in collectability. Our Omega-Tissot presents very nicely on the wrist. Its case has one area where the metal has particularly oxided away around the edge of the case back between the lugs that can't be seen while it's being worn and is difficult to see at all with the band installed, and it has light aging under the lugs. Otherwise, the case presents very well. Its original-olive shaped pushers are in excellent condition. The silver dial, with gold numbers, red outer tachometer scale and blue telemeter scale shows some aging but still presents well. It has a true vintage look. Please inquire if you would like it restored. One of our Master Watchmakers has disassembled it down to its last screw and cleaned and oiled it and installed a new correct stem. We have timed it on a machine that spins the watch in all directions simulating it being worn on the wrist and it is keeping time within approx. one second per hour. Watches in the Tudor line, apart from the fact that they utilize ebauche movements, are similar to those of Rolex in design and construction. When Rolex launched the Tudor brand in 1945, they strongly intended that the public perception of its quality had to equal that of Rolex. To achieve this lofty aim, until the mid-1990's, Tudor watches featured Rolex cases and crowns, and, until 1971, Rolex bracelets. An advertisement in Britain's Horological Journal in vintage times stated that Tudor's were, "Manufactured under strict Rolex supervision and bear the Rolex label of guarantee." Today's offering showcases this Certified Pre-Owned Tudor Prince Oysterdate ref. 7966 in uncommon 18K gold. In the vintage era, 18K gold Tudors occupy a uniquely uncommon position, particularly when the model in question is not a formal dress watch but a robust, Oyster-cased sports reference such as the Tudor Prince Oysterdate. Tudor was conceived as Rolex’s tool-watch counterpart—engineered for durability, value, and everyday wear—so the overwhelming majority of Prince Oysterdate production was executed in steel or steel-and-gold. Solid 18K cases ran counter to the brand’s practical ethos and were produced only in very small numbers, often for specific markets, like certain parts of Europe and Asia or special retailer driven commissions. Tudor did not actively promote solid-gold sports Oysters the way Rolex did with Day-Dates or gold Submariners decades later. As a result, surviving examples represent an unusual convergence of Tudor’s purposeful DNA with the material language of haute horology: the reassuring weight and warmth of solid gold paired with a case design originally intended for daily, active use. This tension—luxury metal wrapped around a watch meant to be worn, not protected—gives 18K non-dress Tudors a quiet rarity and a character that feels far more intentional and historically revealing than a conventional gold dress watch. Patterned after the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date, one of the company's staple models, it is thinner and of course a bit more affordable than its Rolex sibling. This numbered limited edition was sold only in Japan in 2001 to commemorate the life of the French diving legend for whom the edition is named. Jacques Mayol was the holder of many world records in free diving, and the inspiration for the film The Big Blue. During his deepest descents Mayol free dove a mind boggling 345 feet (105 meters). This watch is numbered 1167. Mating beauty, class, craftsmanship and usefulness, the watch immediately stands out as a quality time piece to even the casual of observer.
