It is entirely hand made and, of the highest quality. The strap is contemporary of course, and adjustable, done in dark blue, it seamlessly matches the richness of the original Ceylon Sapphires. This watch has been in a vault for nearly 40 years and the purchase price includes a factory quality service by our team. You will never see another watch like this one, as it is the only example we have ever seen and was likely a custom ordered piece. The Merimont Watch Co. was a high-end luxury brand and elite jewelry retailer based in New York during the late Belle Époque and Art Deco eras. To sell premium timepieces to affluent American clientele, Merimont commissioned top-tier Swiss watchmaking houses—primarily Vacheron & Constantin, but occasionally others like Patek Philippe and Longines—to supply raw or finished ultra-high-grade mechanical movements. The regulatory history of the Merimont name shows a shifting corporate relationship with the Swiss watch industry: 1917: The Merimont Watch Co. name was first officially registered in Geneva, Switzerland.1918: The name was registered under the American Watch Case Company of New York. Vacheron Constantin historical records from 1919–1920 explicitly mention the American Watch Case Company (Merimont) as a major corporate client alongside post-WWI military contracts. 1928: Control or trademark rights to the Merimont name were officially registered directly under Vacheron & Constantin. The Practice of "Double-Naming" and Custom Branding during this era, was common practice for elite American retailers to commission movements that were custom-engraved for tax mitigation, importing regulations, or localized marketing. When Vacheron Constantin produced these mechanisms for the American market, the movements were frequently engraved with "Merimont" or "Merimont Watch Co." rather than the standard Swiss factory branding. Despite the retailer's name on the plates, the caliber architecture, exquisite finishing, and serial number sequences are definitively authenticated as Vacheron Constantin work. The Vacheron Constantin movements designated for Merimont represented the absolute pinnacle of chronometric precision at the time. Surviving examples, typically housed in ultra-thin platinum or gold Art Deco pocket watch cases, boast incredibly high horological specifications:8 Adjustments: These movements were adjusted to extreme standards to ensure accuracy—typically five positions (to mimic chronometer trials) plus three adjustments for environmental factors (heat, cold, and isochronism).Isochronism Protection: The movements were engineered to keep highly accurate time regardless of whether the mainspring was fully wound or running close to empty. Timepieces featuring a Vacheron movement signed "Merimont" are considered scarce, highly collectible artifacts that showcase the early 20th-century luxury trade bridge between Geneva masters and New York high society.
