Maurice Asselin (1882-1947) A Bunch of anemones and daffodils in a vase Signed lower left Oil on canvas In good condition 36 x 31 cm In its original frame : 51 x 46 cm Maurice Asselin (1882–1947) He was a french painter, watercolourist and printmaker born in Orléans, trained under Fernand Cormon at the École des Beaux-Arts, Paris. Associated with the School of Paris, he was best known for still lifes, nudes, and Breton landscapes He painted in a restrained, sober palette influenced by Cézanne. A close friend of Walter Sickert in London (1914–16) and of writer Pierre Mac Orlan, he was commissioned as a war artist for the Musée de l’Armée in 1917 and made Officier de la Légion d’honneur in 1939. He died in Paris in 1947.
