There are visible folds and creases along the upper edge, together with minor wear and soft creasing around the corners and lower margin, consistent with age and studio storage. A small dark studio mark is visible at the upper left corner. The ink remains strong and clear, and the drawing presents attractively. Description A bold and economical seated female nude by Jacqueline Boisselot, executed in black ink on pale artist paper. The model is shown from behind in a compact seated pose, with the rounded back, hips and bent legs described through a restrained sequence of sweeping brush lines. Boisselot reduces the figure to its essential contours. A long uninterrupted line travels across the shoulders and down the side of the torso, while curved marks define the waist, hip and folded lower body. Rather than using extensive modelling or shading, the artist allows the untouched paper to form the body between the darker ink strokes. The composition is particularly successful in its treatment of the back. The broad upper torso narrows towards the waist before expanding into the rounded hips, creating a strong sculptural rhythm. Shorter interior marks suggest the shoulder blade, spine and division of the lower body without interrupting the overall simplicity of the pose. The sitter appears to lean gently forward, giving the figure a quiet, introspective quality. The head and facial features are omitted entirely, directing attention towards posture and the expressive curve of the body. This anonymity gives the drawing a timeless character and allows it to function as both a figure study and an abstract arrangement of lines. The ink has been applied with varied pressure. Some passages are broad and saturated, while others taper into dry, delicate strokes that reveal the texture of the paper. This variation gives the drawing vitality and preserves the immediacy of a study made directly from the model. Considerable negative space surrounds the figure. The open ground heightens the visual impact of each mark and gives the composition a calm, distinctly modern character. The small number of lines feels deliberate rather than incomplete, demonstrating Boisselot’s confidence in suggesting volume through gesture alone. From an interior perspective, this is a refined and versatile figure study. Its monochrome palette and tall portrait format would suit bedrooms, dressing rooms, studies or minimalist contemporary interiors. It would also make an elegant addition to a gallery wall of modern nudes, line drawings and expressive works on paper. Jacqueline Boisselot was a French artist active during the late 20th century, known for expressive figure studies, portraits, interiors, still lifes, landscapes and abstract compositions.
