Chinese Studded Marble Drum Stool
Chinese Studded Marble Drum Stool

Chinese Studded Marble Drum Stool

Located in Chicago, IL

This impressive stone garden stool is hand-carved from solid marble, designed to add the essential stone element of a traditional Chinese garden. Stone drums such as this were fixtures of courtly gardens and outdoor pavilions, contrasting foliage with the permanence of stone and providing a place to sit and ponder. The marble stool is sculpted to a classic drum shape, with gracefully curved sides and a border of studs around the seat and base, imitating nails used to stretch hide on an actual drum. Faux ring handles are carved onto the sides in low relief, each "hanging" from lotus-form hardware. Softened to a smooth, matte texture, the marble drum...

Antique Chinese Sandstone Double Dragon Lintel, 18th Century Qing
Antique Chinese Sandstone Double Dragon Lintel, 18th Century Qing

Antique Chinese Sandstone Double Dragon Lintel, 18th Century Qing

Located in South Burlington, VT

Here's one of the most beautiful Chinese antiques we have ever found in our travels in China over the past three decades. This is a one-of-a-kind antique sandstone lintel which when installed and displayed could be a handsome addition to your decor. It dates to the 18th century of the Qing dynasty. It still retains remnants of its original poly chrome surfaces. The carving and detail is deep and very fine. Depicted are a pair of writhing dragons competing for the fabled -wish granting jewel- and possibly water waves beneath- all auspicious signs. Dimensions: 13 inches high and 71 inches wide and 14 inches deep Photographs taken in natural light in our garden. Rare work of art. Provenance: originally found in Chengdu Province and has been part of family collection since its acquisition in 2004. Lifetime guarantee of authenticity. Set of Four Chinese Courtyard Door Panels, c. 1850

Located in Chicago, IL

A hallmark of Chinese architecture, tall door panels such as these were used in provincial courtyard homes to easily open up a room to the outdoors. Designed with solid wood panels instead of lattice windows, these door panels were likely installed facing the street, used to protect the home rather than provide decoration. The doors were originally linked by hinges set in opposite directions, allowing the doors to fold upon themselves as they open. Instead of the elaborate carvings often found on Qing-dynasty doors...
