About the Item

Hand-painted ceramic vase by Dietmar Liedke for Karlsruher Majolika, made in West Germany during the 1970s. Incised lines travel around the body in loose graphic bands, dividing areas of brown, ochre, and muted green glaze. The pattern has the directness of folk art, but its earthy palette and strong geometry belong firmly to the studio ceramics of the period. Model 7825 was individually incised and painted, so the decoration varies from one example to another. This vase comes directly from Liedke’s estate, giving it a particularly close connection to the artist and his work at the Karlsruhe manufactory. The base bears the factory mark and model number. Liedke was one of Karlsruher Majolika’s permanent artistic designers and worked across serial ceramics, architectural installations, reliefs, and animal sculpture. This vase shows the quieter side of his practice: compact, tactile, and shaped as much by drawing as by glaze.
