About the Item

An early and likely French Napoleon III wood Letter or Storage Box with Heraldic painted top and front panel depicting a central red banner with hunting horn flanked by two standing Greyhounds having crown adorned necks, all with gilt line framing. The front panel with both a green helmet and a red goblet in shield form surrounds. The box itself with fine ancient iron hinges, and lock (Lacking a key) with closure and leather carry handles (One fragmentary). The Box sits on a later well made custom stand with stretcher base. The box interior in a later colorful Celadon paint. Dimensions: 14” wide by 11.5” deep by 25” high. Condition: Please see detail photos. Various signs of great age include wear, losses and chips to the wood and painting along with age warping to the lid and the aforementioned fragmentary leather strap mentioned for accuracy as the presentation is authentic and regal.
