About the Item

A highly rare and remarkably sophisticated French Charles X period luxury desk accessory, measuring 33 cm in height. Designed as an exceptional suspension inkwell (encrier), this piece features a vibrant turquoise blue opaline glass well suspended from three delicate patinated bronze chains. The architectural structure is crafted from finely chased patinated bronze, featuring a majestic Neoclassical gooseneck support adorned with scrolling acanthus leaves, stylized rosettes, and a beautifully detailed ram's head terminal. The central column is punctuated by brilliant ormolu (gilt bronze) collars displaying intricate foliate motifs. The entire assembly rests firmly on a substantial fluted, column-form base made of patinated and gilded bronze with a beaded rim. The sweeping, scrolled bronze elements at the base of the column also functioned as an elegant pen rest. This collector's piece stands out for its bold, dramatic contrast between the rich dark patina, the radiant gold accents, and the striking pop of authentic 19th-century French blue opaline glass. A magnificent example of early 19th-century Parisian craftsmanship, perfect for adding an air of aristocratic elegance and historical prestige to any fine library, executive desk, or curated collection.
