About the Item

This Tsubo, pottery Jar is a product of, at least late Edo era (estimate 1840s-1860) estimate from the style & condition. Especially, The lid is made from wood, has a good amount of wabi sabi texture and looks certain old - so I'd guess it's from Edo period at least. The surface is reinforced by the layered Washi (traditional Japanese paper), stained & coated with persimmon tannin & Urushi lacquer, it gives extra sturdiness & water proofing to the pot. Washi layers are almost conbined together with pottery by the age, having unique wabi sabi texture on it. There's a tiny, little hole (about 0.2 in * 0.08 in), and the surface lost around that hole (0.79 in * 0.28 in), on the upper area. Also I haven't done the water leaking test, I recommend to put smaller water container inside when using as a vase.
