About the Item

Elegant pair of antique porcelain vases produced in Bohemia by Josef Strnact (JS Austria), dated circa 1846. Each vase is executed in a rich green glazed ground and decorated with finely detailed female portrait medallions set against a gold background. The portraits are rendered in a classical academic style typical of mid-19th-century Bohemian porcelain production. The baluster-shaped bodies feature applied side handles and stand on molded bases. Gilt decoration is present on the handles, foot rims, and necks. Based on visual examination, this gilding may have been enhanced or refreshed at a later date, although no definitive documentation is available. Both vases retain strong visual symmetry and were clearly conceived as a matching pair, intended for decorative display in refined interiors of the Biedermeier period.
