About the Item

Rare pair of late 19th-century French vases in the style of Émaux de Longwy, retailed by the prestigious Maison A. Giroux, Paris. Each vase features a deep cobalt-blue glaze with raised polychrome enamel decoration showing Renaissance-inspired masks, scrolls, and portraits of Henri III (“HENRY III ROI 1580”) and Louise de Lorraine. Mounted in original patinated bronze “bamboo” frames with intricate openwork rims and sculptural tripod bases in Japonisme taste. The underside shows a partial paper label consistent with A. Giroux retail pieces and the painted “AG” mark. Both vases display visible glaze wear and surface abrasions across the body, typical for age, but no structural cracks or restorations. The bronze mounts retain their authentic dark patina with only small traces of oxidation. Origin: France, attributed to Émaux de Longwy for A. Giroux Paris Period: circa 1880 - 1895 Material: Enamelled faience, cobalt glaze, hand-painted enamel, patinated bronze mounts Dimensions: Height 43 cm (16.9 in), Width 17 cm (6.7 in) Condition: Structurally sound; noticeable glaze wear and abrasions throughout the surface, consistent with age; bronze with original patina and minor oxidation.
