Bulb-bottomed vase with long neck decorated with multicolored enamel and gold. It is embellished with arabesques, flowers and latticework patterns in orientalist taste on a marbled Bordeaux background. Remnants of a mark underneath. The fascination with the orient and its exotic decoration dominated the 18th-19th centuries. It was China that started the enthusiasm for the costumes and artistic shapes that came from faraway lands. However, as a result of conquests and colonial Expansion, this fascination saw the displacement of its origins. During the 18th century, Chinese and Turkish styles invaded the salons and gardens of royalty as well as affluent esthetes who prided themselves on their taste for The Orient. Unusual enamelled and gilded Victorian Harrach Potpurri holder with original white metal feet and collar with detachable pierced lid and separate two part inner filter made c1890. With an opaque cream base, it is enamelled with green gilded bands and floral decoration. The container inner lid allows the contents to be closed off, partly closed off or left fully open, ensuring the fragrance is released into the room when only when desired. Harrach has been the backbone of Bohemian, and possibly European, glass for the last 300 years. It proudly celebrates its tri-centenary in 2012. A fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver mounted, cut glass claret jug, an addition to our wine and drink related collection. This fine antique Victorian sterling silver and cut glass claret jug has a circular rounded, globular form. The cylindrical neck is fitted with a fine and impressive plain sterling silver hallmarked mount with the original hallmarked flat hinged cover. The cover is surmounted with a simplified tri-lobed silver thumb piece. This antique claret jug is fitted with a plain angular rounded handle with scrolling upper terminal and featuring a leaf ornamentation to the lower portion. The glass body of the jug is embellished with a cut glass swirl design to either side, conjoining with undulating bands to the circumference. The body of this impressive claret jug is further ornamented with a star cut base. Condition This antique sterling silver and glass claret jug is an exceptional gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent condition. The glass is in perfect condition. Full hallmarks struck to the surface and part hallmarks to the cover have wear due to their location and in keeping with age; the maker's mark to the cover and the mount are not deeply struck but remain legible.
