About the Item

This pair of Italian wall sconces from the 1950s combines a refined modernist silhouette with rich brass surfaces and softly glowing glass. Each sconce is built around a circular brass backplate (diameter approx. 12 cm / 4.72 in) from which a slender rod projects outward and upwards at an angle, creating a dynamic, almost graphic line on the wall. At the end of each arm sits a spherical shade composed of a brass upper half and an opaline glass lower half, a simple but striking contrast of metal and glass. When lit, the opaline globe produces a warm, even light ideal for ambient or accent illumination. The brass shows an attractive, naturally aged patina with light marks and small signs of use consistent with the sconces’ age, enhancing their vintage character. The design language is very close to wall lights produced by Stilnovo in the same period, and in the trade this pair is often attributed to that manufacturer, although no maker’s mark is present. Each fixture is fitted with a single E14 socket, suitable for use in Europe and also in the United States and Canada when fitted with the appropriate E14 bulbs.
