About the Item

A quintessential pair of Danish mid-century slipper lounge chairs — the definitive expression of 1960s Scandinavian Modern design at its most inviting and assured. Widely known in Danish design circles as "bananstole" (banana chairs) or cocktailstole for their sensuous, armless curved silhouette, this type of low-slung easy chair was produced by skilled Danish upholstery workshops throughout the late 1950s and 1960s and represents some of the finest anonymous production of the era. Each chair features a generously sculpted, winged backrest with restrained button tufting — a hallmark of quality Danish polstermøbel craftsmanship — flanked by a row of period-correct brass nailhead trim along the rear seam. The seats are broad, deeply cushioned, and supremely comfortable. The chairs are raised on elegantly tapered solid beech legs, stained to a warm honey tone, that give the silhouette its characteristic lightness and elevation — a leg form ubiquitous in the finest Danish upholstered furniture of the period. Both chairs have been freshly upholstered in a luxurious olive-green bouclé-textured fabric — a tone and material that could not be more covetable in the current market.
