About the Item

Pair of "Baffo" lounge chairs by Gianni Pareschi and Ezio Didone for Busnelli, Italy, 1969. Original first edition in cowhide leather and chromed tubular steel, produced prior to the 2007 re-edition. Designed in 1969 by Gianni Pareschi and Ezio Didone, co-founders of Gruppo DAM (Designer Associati Milano) - the influential Milanese design collective established in 1968. The Baffo (Italian for "mustache") takes its name from the curved silhouette of the tubular chrome frame, whose four bent ends suspend the leather seat entirely off the floor. The result is a sling chair with the graphic character emblematic of Italian radical design circa 1970. DAM held an exclusive production agreement with Gruppo Industriale Busnelli, through which the collective delivered some of the most iconic pieces of the period (Armadillo, Baffo) alongside a complete visual identity program for the company. Pareschi's related Busnelli designs, the Fiocco and Libro chairs, are held in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York. This pair is an original first-edition production, distinguished from the 2007 Busnelli re-edition by its period cowhide and galvanic chrome finish. Condition: Good vintage condition. Original leather with visible wear and cracking, consistent with age and use - patina characteristic of fifty-year-old cowhide. Chromed steel frames structurally sound. Dimensions: H 83 cm × W 78 cm × D 98 cm. Seat height 35 cm.
