About the Item

Oil on canvasFramed: 36 × 47 cmFramed: 50 × 59.5 cmFramed depicting a refined Allegory of Charity, a traditional iconography featuring a seated young woman, wrapped in a deep red robe, accompanied by three cherubs. The female figure, with a sweet and collected face, welcomes and protects the children, restoring an intimate and affectionate reading of the subject. The balanced and harmonious composition can be traced back to seventeenth-century painting, within the Central Italian school, with references to the classicist and devotional tradition. The use of color is particularly effective, with the flaming red of the robe dominating the scene and enhancing the allegory of virtue. The painting has been re-lined and has some repainting, especially in the background, likely done during the twentieth century according to then-customary practices. However, the work retains a pleasant antique flavor and good overall readability. The Roman carved and gilded gold-leaf frame is of fine quality, featuring warm, bright gilding. The frame shows normal signs of weather wear, with small cracks and slight openings at the joints, without compromising its stability. The back shows ancient fork joints, indicative of traditional construction. The rabbet is slightly enlarged, probably due to an adaptation that took place in a past era.Work of good decorative and collectible level, embellished with a coeval frame of great charm. For further information, photos or technical details, please do not hesitate to contact us.
