About the Item

Description: Two images on one sheet titled 'An Usurper stoned to Death (..)'. According to the text, Rajasingha was usurped by Vinne Ladarma, but retook the throne. Rajasingha had the usurper 'buried in the ground up to his breast, and so to be kill'd by the means of certain Wooden Balls, which were thrown at his Head, till his Brains were dash'd out'. Source unknown, to be determined. A usurper is an illegitimate or controversial claimant to power, often but not always in a monarchy. In other words, a person who takes the power of a country, city, or established region for themselves, without any formal or legal right to claim it as their own. Usurpers can rise to power in a region by often unexpected physical force, as well as through political influence and deceit. Artists and Engravers: Anonymous. Published after P. Baldaeus. Condition: Very good, please study image carefully.
