About the Item

An Akoya pearls long necklace. This is a very well-matched pearls necklace, composed by seventy-nine Akoya round pearls of nine millimeters. The elegant strand has a length of twenty-nine inches and is mounted in a classic lock, crafted in white gold of 18 karats. Cultured Akoya pearls over 8mm in diameter are the most coveted of all Akoya pearls because fine ones are difficult to achieve. The longer a pearl remains inside the oyster the thicker the nacre and larger it grows but the greater the opportunity for any number of variables to come along and spoil the pearl. These large 9 mm pearls are luminous and stunning: they are creamy-white with a nice overtone. The pearls possess a nice, sharp shine. Akoya The Akoya pearl is a saltwater cultured pearl from the Akoya oyster (Pinctada Fucata Martensii). Because Akoya are the most abundant type of saltwater pearl with the longest cultured history, information on Akoya is abundant!
